I Knew Something Was Off About Mrs Jenkins’ Trash Cans

I’m sitting on the couch, staring at my cat Mr Whiskers who’s currently grooming his paw.

Pandora is in the kitchen making lunch, and I can hear John Mercer’s voice muffled through the wall as he talks to himself while playing video games.

It’s a pretty typical Monday afternoon.

But what catches my attention is that Mrs Jenkins’ trash cans are still out on the curb – they’re supposed to be collected today.

I’m not sure if it’s just my neighborhood’s schedule or if she forgot to put them back in.

I wonder if I should mention it to her when I see her outside later, but it’s probably nothing and I’ll look like a nosy neighbor if I bring it up.

Still, something about it doesn’t feel right…

maybe it’s just the fact that Mr Whiskers is now staring intently at me, as if he’s trying to tell me something too.

I’m starting to think it’s not just Mrs Jenkins’ trash cans that are out of place, but also my own routine.

I mean, every Monday afternoon is usually pretty predictable – Pandora makes lunch, John Mercer gets lost in his game, and I…

well, I used to take a break and chat with Mr Whiskers, or at least pay him some attention.

But today, everything feels off.

Even the sound of John Mercer’s voice muffled through the wall seems different, like it’s echoing off the walls more than usual.

And Pandora, usually she’d come out and ask me what’s wrong when I’m staring at Mr Whiskers like this, but so far nothing.

It’s like everyone’s just going about their business as usual, except for me and…

and Mrs Jenkins’ trash cans, of course.

Wait a minute, I’m overthinking this.

It’s just my usual Monday afternoon blues, right? I mean, Mrs Jenkins’ trash cans being out is probably just a scheduling thing, and Mr Whiskers staring at me is just his usual weird cat behavior.

But what if it’s more than that? What if there’s something going on with the neighbors or even John Mercer that I’m not picking up on? His muffled voice through the wall sounds different, but maybe that’s because he’s finally getting past this level in his game and is actually starting to think about something else.

And Pandora, she usually comes out and checks on me when I’m zoning out like this, so maybe it’s just her usual busy schedule with work or…

no, wait, she’s still making lunch, that’s not the problem.

Ugh, my mind is racing with all these “what ifs” and I need to stop overthinking things.

Pandora’s voice, usually a gentle hum in the background while she’s making lunch, sounds…

different.

Not loud or anything, just a slight inflection that makes me think twice about what she’s saying to herself.

I can hear her muttering something about “tomorrow” and ” schedule”, but it doesn’t quite sound like she’s talking to herself as usual.

Maybe she’s on the phone? No, I don’t remember hearing anyone else’s voice.

Unless…

unless John Mercer is here, somehow sneaking into my life again without me noticing? But why would he need to talk to Pandora about something that requires her to be on the phone? And even if he was, wouldn’t she just mention it when we’re making plans for dinner or something? I’m getting ahead of myself, maybe.

I’m trying to focus on what Pandora’s saying, but my mind keeps wandering.

Her tone sounds almost…

formal? Like she’s speaking to someone who expects a certain level of professionalism from her.

I’m thinking maybe it has something to do with work, but even that doesn’t feel right.

We’ve talked about our schedules and plans for the week before, and this just feels different.

And then there’s the matter of Mrs.

Jenkins’ trash cans still being out…

could be a coincidence, but what if it’s not? What if she’s trying to tell me something without actually saying anything? I’m starting to feel a bit paranoid, like everyone around me is hiding something.

Mr.

Whiskers seems oblivious as usual, just lounging in the sunbeam, but even he looks…

off? Maybe it’s just my imagination playing tricks on me, but what if I’m onto something here? Wait a minute…

maybe Pandora’s tone has nothing to do with the phone call or Mrs.

Jenkins’ trash cans.

Maybe it’s something more…

personal.

I remember she mentioned yesterday that Dave from work is coming over for lunch today, but what if that’s not just a social visit? What if he’s here to discuss something specific with her, and she’s being careful not to let on in front of me? The way she’s speaking to herself, it sounds almost…

rehearsed.

Like she’s practicing a conversation or preparing for an argument.

And then there’s the fact that Karen’s been acting weird lately too – always asking Pandora about “things” without actually saying what they are.

Could be a coincidence, but what if it’s all connected? What if Pandora’s got some secret life I know nothing about, and everyone around me is in on it except me? That’s when Mr.

Whiskers’ sudden interest in that dust bunny under the couch seems suspicious…

I’m starting to notice some inconsistencies in John Mercer’s behavior too – he’s been avoiding eye contact with me lately, and when I ask him about his day, he just shrugs it off.

At first, I thought maybe he was just stressed about work or something personal, but now I wonder if there’s more to it.

What if he’s somehow involved in whatever’s going on with Pandora? Maybe they’re in cahoots together and that’s why he’s been so secretive around me.

And then there’s the fact that our living room is starting to look like a cluttered disaster zone – clothes scattered everywhere, dirty dishes piling up…

it’s like we’ve both just given up on taking care of ourselves lately.

But what if this messiness is more than just laziness? What if it’s a distraction from something else entirely? Maybe our whole apartment is a smokescreen for whatever Pandora and John are hiding.

I need to get to the bottom of this…

I’m beginning to piece together a narrative that’s starting to sound eerily plausible.

The way Mr.

Jenkins, our landlord, has been lurking around the apartment complex more often than usual doesn’t seem like a coincidence anymore.

I’ve caught glimpses of him speaking to John Mercer in hushed tones by the dumpster, and now I’m convinced they’re cooking something up together.

It’s all connected – Pandora’s secrecy, Karen’s cryptic questions, our messy living room…

even Mrs.

Jenkins’ excessive baking lately might be more than just a nice gesture.

What if she’s been feeding us something to keep us docile while Mr.

Jenkins and John Mercer pull the strings from behind the scenes? I need to get to the bottom of this, but how do I gather evidence without arousing suspicion? And what exactly am I dealing with here – some kind of conspiracy or a full-blown cult? The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced that Pandora is at the center of this whole thing.

She’s always been a bit of an enigma to me, but now I see her as a master puppeteer, manipulating us all for some unknown purpose.

I remember how she’d often sneak out of the apartment in the dead of night, claiming she was going for a walk or to meet with friends, but what if that was just a cover? What if she’s been meeting with Mr.

and Mrs.

Jenkins, coordinating their efforts to keep us in the dark? And what about Karen? She’s always been friendly towards Pandora, but now I wonder if they’re colluding together.

I need to get inside her head, figure out what she knows.

But how do I approach her without raising suspicion? Maybe I can use Mr.

Whiskers as a distraction…

he’s been acting strange lately, too – more clingy than usual.

Could be useful.
