I Think John Mercer Is Rubbing Off On Her

I’ve been noticing that Pandora’s been leaving her phone charger on the kitchen counter lately, but I haven’t seen her use it in a while.

It’s just a small thing, but it seems like she usually keeps it tidy.

I’m not sure why it’s bugging me, but it might be because John Mercer left his own charger there last week and it was still plugged in by the time he remembered to take it out.

Maybe Pandora’s just been too busy or something.

But at the same time, it feels like she used to make more of an effort to clean up after herself.

I’m not sure if it’s a big deal or what, but it’s got me wondering…

maybe John Mercer has been leaving his stuff around and she’s just getting into the habit of leaving her own things out too? Or maybe there’s something else going on that I don’t know about.

Mrs Jenkins was talking to Pandora yesterday about some plans they have for the weekend, but Karen said it sounded like a pretty vague conversation…

I’m starting to think that maybe this has nothing to do with Pandora or John Mercer’s habits, but rather something more subtle.

Maybe it’s just a sign of us all getting a bit more relaxed around each other.

I mean, Mr Whiskers used to be super tidy too, but now he leaves his hairballs all over the place and no one even bothers to vacuum them up.

It’s not like anyone’s being lazy or neglectful, we’re just…

comfortable, I guess.

And that makes me wonder if maybe Pandora’s been feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything lately – she’s been working a lot at her new job and dealing with Mrs Jenkins’ drama about the garden club.

Maybe this little thing is just a small manifestation of her stress, or maybe it’s something more.

Or maybe I’m just reading too much into it because I’ve got nothing better to think about…

Dave said he saw John Mercer watching TV for hours last night, could that have anything to do with it? I’m starting to think about the conversations I’ve been having with Karen lately.

She’s always been a bit more…

observant, I suppose, picking up on things that might slip by me.

And she mentioned something yesterday about John Mercer seeming a bit off lately, too.

At first, I brushed it off as just her being paranoid, but now I’m not so sure.

Maybe there is something going on with him that we don’t know about? Dave did say he saw him watching TV for hours last night, and that does sound kind of suspicious.

Could be nothing, of course – maybe John Mercer’s just been stressed out too.

But at the same time…

I don’t know, it feels like there’s something more to it.

And if Karen is picking up on it, then maybe I’m not being paranoid for thinking there’s something going on with Pandora either.

Maybe we’re all just missing something obvious? I’ve been paying more attention to Pandora’s behavior lately, and I have to admit, it does seem like she’s been a bit…

distant.

Not in a big way or anything, just little things that add up.

Like, we’ll be watching TV together and she’ll suddenly get up to grab a snack without saying a word.

Or we’ll be talking about something and she’ll interrupt me mid-sentence to go check on Mr Whiskers.

It’s not like it’s a huge deal or anything, but when I think back on it, it does seem like she’s been a bit more preoccupied than usual.

And maybe that’s connected to the irballs, too – could be that she’s feeling overwhelmed and just doesn’t know how to talk about it? But at the same time, I’ve seen her laugh and joke with me in the morning when we’re getting ready for work, so it’s not like she’s completely shutting down or anything.

It’s just…

this little nagging feeling that something is off, you know? I’ve been trying to think about why Pandora might be distant like this, and I keep coming back to one thing: her mom.

We don’t really talk about it much, but I know she’s not exactly close with Mrs Jenkins, and that can’t be easy for her.

Maybe it’s just me being insensitive, but I’ve noticed that whenever we talk about family stuff, Pandora tends to get a bit…

guarded, like she’s trying to protect herself from something.

And I’ve seen how Mr Jenkins can be when he gets stressed or overwhelmed – really critical and short-tempered.

If Pandora is picking up on some of those same vibes from her mom, it could explain why she seems so preoccupied all the time.

But then again, maybe that’s just me projecting my own issues onto her…

I was hanging out with John Mercer in his room the other day, and Pandora walked in to borrow something from him.

She was quiet as usual, but what struck me was that she didn’t even ask how I was doing or acknowledge my presence at all – it was like I wasn’t even there.

At first, I thought maybe she was just having a bad day or something, but then I started thinking about it more and it seemed really intentional on her part to ignore me like that.

Like, what if this is some kind of passive-aggressive thing? What if she’s upset with me about something but doesn’t want to talk about it directly? It’s not like we’ve had any major fights or disagreements recently, so maybe there’s something else going on here.

I’m starting to think that Pandora might be hiding something from me, and this behavior is just a symptom of whatever is really bothering her.

Now that I’m thinking about it more, I remember Karen mentioning something about Pandora’s family being pretty wealthy.

And I’ve seen the way Mrs Jenkins dresses and carries herself – she’s definitely got a certain…

air of entitlement to her.

It makes me wonder if Pandora’s mom is one of those people who expects everything to be handed to them on a silver platter, and if that’s somehow affecting Pandora’s own sense of identity or expectations in life.

Maybe that’s why Pandora seems so preoccupied – she’s caught between pleasing her mom and forging her own path, but doesn’t know how to navigate it all without upsetting either herself or the people around her.

And that could explain why John Mercer seemed so oblivious when I mentioned my concerns about Pandora – maybe he just doesn’t want to rock the boat with our social dynamics, or maybe he genuinely thinks I’m being too sensitive and overthinking things…

I was just watching Dave mow the lawn, and it got me thinking about Pandora’s dad again – what if he’s somehow manipulating her from behind the scenes? I mean, he’s a pretty influential guy in this town, so it wouldn’t be that hard for him to pull some strings.

And think about how often she’s mentioned wanting to stay close to home after college, like she’s got some kind of obligation to take over the family business or something…

maybe that’s not even what she wants at all, but her dad is just pushing her in that direction because it’s what he expects from her as a daughter.

It’s like, has anyone ever really asked Pandora what she genuinely wants for herself? Or are we all just playing along with this charade of her being some kind of high-society heiress, when deep down she might be dying to break free from it all and pursue her own passions? I’m starting to piece together a few more connections.

I remember Karen mentioning that Pandora’s mom has been acting really weird lately, like she’s always on edge and constantly asking about her daughter.

And then there was that time Mrs Jenkins came over and started lecturing me about how I need to be supportive of Pandora’s “choices”, like she knows something I don’t.

It’s all adding up – what if Pandora’s parents are not just manipulating her, but actually controlling her? They’re so used to getting their way in this town that they might think they can just dictate her every move and expect everyone else to go along with it.

And John Mercer, being the yes-man that he is, wouldn’t dare rock the boat.

But what really gets my goat is how Pandora seems oblivious to all of this – I’ve tried talking to her about it, but she just brushes me off like I’m overthinking things.
