John Mercer’s Phone Charger Is Watching Me

I’m sitting in our living room, staring at Mr Whiskers who’s lounging on my lap.

He seems particularly relaxed today, almost too still.

I’m not sure what’s gotten into him.

Pandora walked by a few minutes ago and gave him some treats, but he didn’t even stir.

It’s weird because normally he’d be meowing loudly for more or pouncing on his toys the moment she leaves the room.

Now that she’s out of sight, he seems almost…guilty? No, that can’t be right.

I’m probably just reading too much into it.

But then I notice Karen’s scarf is draped over the back of the couch, and John Mercer’s phone charger is tangled in the mess of wires on the coffee table.

It looks like we had a bit of a clutter explosion yesterday while I was out with Pandora.

I wonder if anyone cleaned up after themselves…or not.

I’m trying to make sense of Mr Whiskers’ behavior, but my mind keeps wandering back to the mess in the living room.

John Mercer’s phone charger is tangled up with Karen’s scarf, and it looks like a battle zone in here.

I swear, after we had that big cleaning session last weekend, it seemed like everyone was on board with keeping things tidy.

But now…I’m starting to think maybe Dave just came over without announcing himself or something.

Yeah, that must be it.

He’s always been a bit of a slob when he crashes here for the night.

And Mr Whiskers, being the drama queen that he is, has probably caught wind of some secret mess-making scheme and is now paying the price with his weirdly subdued behavior.

No, no, no…that can’t be it.

I’m overthinking this.

I’m getting all worked up about nothing, I tell myself.

Mr Whiskers is probably just conserving his energy because he’s had a big meal or something.

Yeah, that’s it.

But then I notice Mrs Jenkins’ vase on the windowsill is now two inches away from its usual spot, and I could swear it was right next to the wall this morning.

And have we even paid the electricity bill yet? Mr Jenkins has been bugging me about it for weeks, but Pandora keeps reminding him that I’m in charge of taking care of it.

Maybe Dave came over and used the last of our credit card money without asking…no, no, that’s ridiculous.

Mrs Jenkins would’ve said something if she knew we were short on cash again.

Unless…unless Mr Whiskers is trying to distract me from something? Wait a minute, it’s not just Mrs Jenkins’ vase that’s out of place – Pandora’s favorite throw blanket is also nowhere to be seen from its usual spot on the couch.

I could’ve sworn she left it there this morning when we were all getting ready for work.

Now that I think about it, she seemed a bit distracted yesterday evening, too – kept glancing at her phone and muttering something about needing to call her mom later.

Could she have invited Dave over without telling me? No way, we would’ve talked about it beforehand if she had asked him to come over.

Unless…unless she didn’t want me to know something? The more I think about it, the more I’m starting to wonder if Pandora’s been keeping secrets from me lately – and not just about Dave coming over uninvited.

Maybe there’s something else going on that she doesn’t want me to find out.

Okay, I’m really starting to think Pandora might be hiding something from me.

But what if it’s not even about Dave or her mom? Maybe it’s something more mundane…like the electricity bill.

What if she knows we’re running low on cash and didn’t want to tell me because I’d freak out? That would explain why John Mercer hasn’t been getting any work done in his room lately, too – maybe he’s just too busy avoiding the conversation about our financial situation.

And what about Pandora’s car? Has she mentioned needing to get it serviced or something? No, no, that can’t be it…I’m sure I would’ve remembered her mentioning it.

Unless…unless she’s been sneaking off to meet Dave and he’s driving her around in his own car? But why wouldn’t she just tell me about it if that was the case? Wait a minute, I remember something else – Mr Whiskers has been acting weird too.

He usually sleeps next to me on the couch, but yesterday he was nowhere to be found until late at night when Pandora came home.

And she seemed surprised to see him there, almost like…like she hadn’t expected him to still be in his usual spot.

Which is why I’m starting to think that maybe she did leave the blanket on the floor – as a signal or something? Maybe it’s some kind of code we’re familiar with but I’ve just forgotten about it.

But what if Mr Whiskers has been noticing her behavior too and he’s trying to warn me somehow? That would explain why he’s been so clingy lately, always following me around the house.

Could it be that Mr Whiskers is trying to tell me something? I’m starting to think that Mrs Jenkins might be involved in all this somehow.

I remember Pandora mentioning that she’s been having some trouble with her neighbor, and now I wonder if there’s more to it than just a simple dispute over noise levels or whatever.

Maybe Mrs Jenkins has been trying to get under our skin on purpose – like, maybe she’s the one who’s been leaving things out of place in our apartment, or even sabotaging John Mercer’s job search by telling him he’s not good enough or something.

But why would she do that? Unless…unless it’s all connected to her relationship with Mr Jenkins.

I’ve noticed they seem pretty tense lately when we see them walking down the street together.

What if Mrs Jenkins is trying to get revenge on Pandora for something, and using our apartment as a pawn in her game? That would explain why everything seems off-kilter around here – it’s not just about Dave or money or Mr Whiskers; it’s about some deeper drama that I’m only starting to catch wind of.

Now that I think about it, maybe Mrs Jenkins is using Karen as a pawn in her game too.

I remember Pandora mentioning that Karen’s been acting weird lately, always saying she’s fine but clearly not being herself.

Could be that Karen’s somehow involved with this drama with Mrs Jenkins and Mr Whiskers, like maybe they’re all in on it together or something.

I’m starting to piece together a whole conspiracy theory here – it’s got to do with Karen’s recent “interest” in Dave, who just so happens to be living next door to Mrs Jenkins.

What if Mrs Jenkins is using Karen to get close to Dave and then use him against Pandora somehow? That would explain why Pandora’s been getting all worked up about Dave lately, thinking he’s flirting with her or whatever – it’s all just a ruse to distract us from the real issue.

I’m positive this is how it’s playing out; Mrs Jenkins is using Karen as a pawn in some twisted game of revenge against Pandora.

I’m starting to see how all these threads are connected, and it’s not just about Mrs Jenkins using Karen as a pawn in her game.

I think John Mercer might be more involved than I initially thought.

Remember how he’s always been pretty tight-lipped about his job? I’ve been meaning to ask him more questions, but every time I bring it up, he changes the subject or gets evasive.

Now I’m starting to wonder if he’s in on Mrs Jenkins’ scheme too – maybe he’s even working with her to take down Pandora.

That would explain why he’s been so distant and preoccupied lately, always sneaking off to make phone calls when we’re not around.

And what about all the times he’s said we should move out of this apartment because it’s “not a good vibe”? I think he was just feeding us misinformation to make us more willing to leave, clearing the way for Mrs Jenkins’ plan to take over the place.
