I Think Pandora’s Plate Is Sending a Message

I’m standing in the kitchen, sipping on a lukewarm coffee, and I notice that Pandora’s plate is still clean from breakfast.

She usually leaves it in the sink or puts it in the dishwasher, but this morning it’s just sitting here, empty and spotless.

Now, I don’t think much of it at first, but then I start to think about why she would do that.

Was she in a rush? Did she eat on the go again? It seems like she’s been doing that more often lately.

I also notice that John Mercer hasn’t commented on it yet, which is weird because he usually chimes in with some quip or complaint about something.

Mr Whiskers is sitting next to my leg, purring away, but even his calm demeanor can’t distract me from this tiny thing that’s bothering me.

It’s almost…

I don’t know, insignificant, really.

But it’s there, and it’s making me feel slightly off-kilter.

I glance over at Mr Whiskers, who’s still purring away, and I start to wonder if maybe he was the one who ate Pandora’s breakfast.

That’s a possibility, right? Maybe he snuck in while she was distracted or something.

But then I think about how clean the plate is – no crumbs, no spills, just pristine.

It doesn’t really match Mr Whiskers’ eating habits, actually.

He’s always leaving bits of hair behind when he chases his food around.

And Karen did come over last night, but I don’t recall her bringing any leftovers or mentioning breakfast plans with Pandora.

Wait a minute…

if Karen was here overnight, maybe she and Pandora had some sort of…

thing.

No, no, that’s not it at all.

I’m just being paranoid now.

I try to shake off the thought, but it lingers in the back of my mind like a faint whisper.

I start to think about Pandora’s schedule for the day and how it might have affected her breakfast plans.

She mentioned something about a meeting at work, but that was supposed to be an hour ago already.

Maybe she overslept or got stuck in traffic? I try to recall if she mentioned anything about eating on-the-go again today, but my mind is blank.

Mrs Jenkins, our neighbor, is always talking about how busy everyone’s schedules are these days – could it be that Pandora just forgot her breakfast altogether? But then I remember something: Mr Whiskers was acting strange last night, hiding under the bed for hours without his usual evening cuddles.

Maybe he sensed something and was trying to tell me…

no, stop it, Hal, you’re reading way too much into this.

I try to put myself in Pandora’s shoes and think about what she might have done if she did eat her breakfast.

Did she even leave the apartment this morning? I’m not sure, we didn’t really talk about it.

And Dave, our other roommate, has been keeping to himself lately, but he’s always been a bit of a mystery anyway.

But no, wait, I remember now – Pandora mentioned something about meeting John Mercer for coffee before work.

That would have given her some time to grab breakfast on the go, I suppose.

But wouldn’t she have told me about it? Unless…

unless she didn’t want me to know what they were discussing or where they went together.

The thought sends a small pang through my chest and I feel a slight flush rise to my cheeks as I try to push it away.

Maybe I’m just being ridiculous, but I can’t shake the feeling that there’s something going on here that I don’t know about yet.

I try to recall if Pandora mentioned anything about running errands or meeting up with friends before work, but my memory is a jumble of fragmented thoughts.

I do remember John Mercer mentioning something about picking up a package from the post office earlier today, and now that I think about it, it could have given Pandora an excuse to meet him there.

But what if it’s not just a coincidence? What if they’re trying to keep something from me? The thought makes my stomach twist into knots as I try to make sense of it all.

And then there’s Mrs Jenkins again – she mentioned something about a new family moving in next door, and how the parents were both always rushing out the door early in the morning.

Could that be related to Pandora’s tardiness somehow? The more I think about it, the more threads start to weave together into a tangled mess of possibilities, each one more confusing than the last.

The way Pandora left her breakfast plate on the table this morning, it’s almost as if she was trying to distract me from something.

I mean, why would she just leave it there like that? She knows how messy Mr Whiskers can be, and yet…

And then I remember how Mrs Jenkins mentioned those new neighbors being a bit loud, and how they always seem to have guests over in the evenings.

Could Pandora’s lateness be connected to her sneaking out to visit them or meet up with John Mercer at their place? That would explain why she was so evasive about her plans earlier.

I’ve seen the way those new neighbors’ kids look at us, like they’re sizing us up – it wouldn’t surprise me if Pandora’s getting caught up in some sort of drama with them.

And what about Dave from next door? He’s always been friendly enough, but…

actually, now that I think about it, he did seem a bit too interested in our morning routines the other day.

The more I consider Pandora’s behavior, the more I’m convinced she’s hiding something.

I’ve been trying to recall our conversations lately, and now that I think about it, there was this one time when Karen mentioned seeing her at the local park in the afternoon.

At first, I brushed it off as a coincidence, but what if it wasn’t? What if Pandora was meeting someone there without telling me? And then there’s John Mercer – he’s always been a bit too interested in my business, and now that I think about it, he did ask me some pretty pointed questions about our relationship the other day.

Is it possible he’s trying to get information out of me for…

for what purpose? The thought sends a shiver down my spine as I wonder if Pandora might be playing both sides against each other.

And what about Mrs Jenkins’ comment about the new neighbors being in a hurry all the time – could they be involved somehow, or is it just another red herring? I’ve been observing Mrs Jenkins’ behavior around our cat, Mr Whiskers.

She’s always been a bit too keen on getting pets and treats for him when I’m not looking, which I’ve written off as her being a cat lady.

But now that I think about it, she’s been asking questions about Pandora’s whereabouts at an alarming rate – is she trying to get information out of me? I remember one time, I came home from work early and caught her lingering around our place, taking notes on the side of a notebook.

She claimed it was for a “neighborhood watch” initiative, but what if it’s something more sinister? Maybe Pandora’s getting involved with some sort of cat-related conspiracy, and Mrs Jenkins is in on it.

I can see it now: Pandora sneaking around at night, meeting up with Dave from next door to discuss their nefarious feline plans, while John Mercer looks on, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

I’ve been racking my brain trying to piece together what’s going on.

I remembered Karen from work mentioning that she’d seen Dave and Pandora together at a coffee shop near our place, but when I asked her about it later, she brushed it off as just a coincidence.

Coincidence? I don’t think so.

It’s like everyone’s trying to feed me little snippets of information without revealing the whole picture.

And then there’s Mr Jenkins – I’ve been noticing he’s been getting more and more agitated lately whenever Pandora comes over, always muttering under his breath about “fines” and “regulations”.

What if they’re not just concerned citizens? What if they’re part of some larger scheme to control our neighborhood, and Mrs.

Jenkins is the one pulling the strings from behind the scenes? I can feel my mind racing with possibilities – Pandora’s involved with Dave in a cat-related conspiracy, John Mercer’s trying to infiltrate our lives for his own purposes, and Mr and Mrs Jenkins are just pawns waiting to be used.
