Here is a ramen shop that I enjoyed frequenting. There is nothing better than getting a nice warm bowl of ramen and a cool autumn or a cold winter day. Today I went to a Thai restaurant in Japan. My favorite Thai food dish is called “Neung Kapow.” It is made with beef and it has chili peppers, basil, fish sauce, and oyster sauce and it is usually served over rice. This restaurant calls the dish “Khaw Kra Pow + Khai Dow” and they serve it with an egg. Here is a picture of what it looks like on this menu.
In the Kanagawa prefecture of Japan, this is one of my favorite ramen shops. They have a great pork based soup with a big bowl of ramen and some delicious chyashu (pork slices) put in the soup. Here’s a new twist on how to serve burgers and if you don’t cook, give this handy little guide to someone that does and request them.
Handmade ground beef patties, topped with sharp cheddar cheese, wrapped in a bacon weave, then the next step, add hotdogs as the heads, legs with slits for toes and tail.
Next step. Place on an oven rack, covered loosely with foil and baked for 20-30 minutes at 400 degrees. A little crispy, not too crunchy…just how a turtle should be, no?
Today I went and ate at the Banyan tree restaurant in the city of Naha in Okinawa prefecture of Japan. It was a nice novelty restaurant to eat at because the whole setting is like you up in a big treehouse. It’s pretty neat and it gives you some interesting views of the city. Here are some of the photos I took.
I bought one of those Topsy Turvy’s like what you see on T.V. It looked like an interesting design and I wanted to see how well it worked. I planted some tomatoes in it and kept it watered very nicely. The cool thing about this design is that you are taking the dirt out of the ground and putting it above ground so the sun can keep it warm in order to allow the plant to grow nicely. The other nice thing is that you can’t over water this. If you over water it, the water just drips right out the bottom. The concept of this is really good because when you think about what some of the biggest polluters on the planet are it is shipping plants and vegetables from the country to the city. This is doing two things. 1. It is cutting down on pollution because you no longer need to ship to the city. 2. It is good for the planet by converting carbon dioxide into oxygen. By having vertical farms like this you are maximizing efficiency of places where you can grow.

A couple of downsides to the Topsy Turvy is that the tarp cloth construction of it rots out over time. This isn’t a prolonged solution. Also, after 1 year the dirt inside become really hard, so you need to periodically change the dirty. I would say that if you use it for just one year it is a good thing, but you probably won’t be able to get a prolonged usage out of it. Nice concept, nice design, construction needs some improvement if you want any type of long term solution.
Today I went to Jimmy Buffett’s at the Beachcomber restaurant in Waikiki, Hawaii. I went there for lunch so there wasn’t a band playing or any drinking going on or anything, but it was a nice atmosphere and it had pretty good food. Here are a few of the photos I took.
Have you ever contemplated the experience of U.S. service members deployed abroad during the holiday season? Such contemplation brings to light the Thanksgiving observance at Eskan Village, situated 22 miles outside Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Ironically, the sole genuine turkey present was a mere display piece, with the remaining fare being the standard processed turkey provided to the military. Against the backdrop of the events that transpired just two months prior, the atmosphere understandably bore a weighty and somber tone.
While in Tokyo, Japan I went to Asakusa and on the way back I stopped and snapped this photo of the Sapporo building. Sapporo is a big beverage company in Japan and they are best known for their beer.
I went to the botanical gardens in Okinawa with some friends to see a Christmas light event that was going on. While there I was walking through a gift store and saw this Habu sake. In Okinawa, “Habu” means snake and sake is Japanese rice wine. So you literally buy a bottle of wine that has a snake inside of it.
