Backstage Look at the Oscars
We were able to get a first hand backstage look at everything that goes into hosting the Academy Awards. It is quite remarkable to see all the people setting up the decorations, walls, lighting, sound, cameras, carpeting, and making sure that everything is in place and ready for the event to go off without a hitch. It looks like a lot of organized chaos.

Streaming Television Device
I have heard about a lot of people who are tired of paying high prices for cable t.v. or satellite t.v. have been making the switch to these streamsmart.tv devices which allow people to watch live t.v. that is being streamed. I asked how these devices aren’t illegal and they said it’s not illegal for several reasons.
1. You are the source of the stream.
2. You aren’t illegally downloading the content.
To me it still seems like something isn’t right because you’re getting copyrighted content for free. Technically you’re getting free content after you pay for the device. I looked around and found that Walmart is selling the devices and so is Target so it must not be breaking any laws. If you think about it, this is the way television is going anyway. It is going to Internet Protocol based and these content providers can reach a much larger market by catering to Internet television.

Orion Beer Towel
I received an Orion Beer towel as a gift. The towel is awesome because, not only does it have a cool design with beer and a whale shark, but it is also a reminder of the time I spent in Okinawa. I don’t exactly remember the whole story from when I went and visited the Orion beer company in Nago, Okinawa. The main part of the story of how Okinawa became popular was back when mainland Japan took over Okinawa the mainland Japanese told the Okinawan’s that they were to buy and drink the Japanese beer. The Okinawan’s made their own beer and boycotted the mainland beer and thus was the Orion beer story. Every year they celebrate and host eisa festivals with singing, dancing, food tents, and also Orion beer tents. Orion beer was the first beer that I actually enjoyed drinking and I really enjoyed the festivals. Kampai!

Orca Encounter Sea World San Diego
I went to the Orca Encounter show at Sea World in San Diego, California. The show has been changed as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has protested Sea World numerous times and also the movie Black Fish has portrayed Sea World in a negative light. For me Sea World is doing nothing different than any zoo around the world is doing, except that Sea World works hard to help rehabilitate many animals in the wild. I have personally seen Sea World get called down to the local beach to where they captured an injured harbor seal and take it to fix it and then release it back into the wild. Sea World changed their show to be more friendly to the killer whales by showing behaviors that they would normally do in the wild. They showed characteristics of the orcas, hunting techniques, and even the size difference between and orca and a blue whale. Sea World also showed how they care for the orcas. It was certainly a good show and worth the chance to go visit.
After the show I walked back to the orca tank and to my surprise there was an orca that appeared to be sleeping. I talked with the Sea World trainer and she informed me that this particular orca seemed to enjoy sleeping while the others would swim around and learn from each other. The trainer also told me that orca’s can sleep while they are swimming. They do that by shutting down 1/2 of their brain. Even though this orca looks like it shut down 100% of it’s brain, it was pretty amazing to hear.

Pawn Stars
I was in Las Vegas, Nevada and decided to stop in on the Pawn Stars, t.v. show on the History channel, 24 hour pawn shop to see what it was like. To my surprise the pawn shop wasn’t very big, but it seemed to have a selection of old equipment, toys, art work, cartoons, comic books, money, weapons, guns, knives, instruments, and even t-shirts for sale. When talking with another person I was surprised to find out that Rick Harris, his son “Big Haus,” “Chumlee” or even the Old Man don’t really ever come into the pawn shop. When they do come into the shop, the shop is closed for filming and it isn’t open to the public, which means the people who come into the store on the show must be paid actors. That was kind of a disappointment to hear. Here are photos of what the shop looks like, what was inside it, and the different items.

でもその前に一波乱。
最初「ラ・ラ・ランド」が呼ばれ関係者一同がステージに上がり「ありがとう」スピーチをしている最中に
何やら後ろがザワザワ怪しい雰囲気に。
「これは間違いだ。「ムーンライト！君達がベスト作品賞だ。これはジョークじゃない」
とオスカーベスト作品賞が書いてある封筒を掲げて発表。
バックステージで封筒の渡し間違いがあったそうだ。
長い歴史の中で１度もなかった前代未聞のミス！
なんだか落ち着かないままで、2017年のアカデミー賞授賞式は幕を閉じました。
